February 2, 2013, Saturday, my brother and mom brought my dad to the emergency section of Medical Center Imus (MCI) because he's been vomiting the whole night and he's already so weak. They told my mom that he needs to be admitted, so we had him confined there though we're quite doubtful about it. He was roomed-in at 2pm. An IV Antibiotic was given to him, plus a dextrose to keep him hydrated. He continued vomiting. I asked the nurse why does he still continue to vomit, she said "Okay lang po yun ma'am". I kept on following up on the nurse station regarding my dad's attending physician who's still not around at 6pm. My dad was complaining of headache already. They just keep on saying that the doctor is coming. I went home and told my mom to update me.
The following day, Sunday, February 3, 2013, I came back to the hospital. There I learned from my mom that the attending physician of my dad arrived at 12midnight. What? Whole day, my father was there, they did nothing but just inject dextrose, antibiotics, check his temperature. I was asking for a resident physician cause I know there should be someone looking after him in case the fellow is not present. But they don't have, the doctor was just texting the nurses for instructions. I was shocked with their kind of system there. I have been hospitalized before so I know how a patient should be taken care of.
What Did You Say, Doctor?
My mom told me that when the doctor came he told her "Ang pagsusuka, galing yan sa tiyan, hindi yan galing dito (pointing to his neck) o dito (pointing to his head)." When I heard of it, I was surprised cause that was the stupidest explanation I have heard from someone who should be knowledgeable of his field. I have spoken to that doctor also on Sunday afternoon before my dad was discharged from the hospital, I asked him what does it mean if the SGPT is elevated? He told me "Hindi natin masabi, kaya nga ni-refer ko siya sa GI, oo, Gastro yun di ba?" I was not convinced by his answer, and the more I became convinced that I should really transfer my dad to a better hospital.
That doctor already knew that we are going to transfer my dad to UP-PGH. When I asked him if my dad's thyroid nodules can be a factor to his vomitting, and body pain, he answered "Hindi ko na mapapagawa yung mga tests kasi nga idi-discharge nyo na." I answered back, "Doc, maghapon po kami dito!" Then he turned his back on me. So rude of him.
My
dad was referred to a GastroEnterologist, but then, I have already decided to
have my dad transferred to another hospital in Manila, where the best doctors
in the country work - UP-PGH. My father had already been cleared to be
discharged, the specialist we were waiting still has not come, maybe another
midnight doctor she is.
Hospital Bills...What?
My dad's total bill for 24hrs was 11,000++ with them doing nothing, just keep on injecting dextrose and whatever antibiotics. After paying have I only noticed the list of items included in the bill, a 180ml Alcohol amounting to Php66.00, plaster, etc. I came back to the room and asked my mom if she was given an alcohol because I did not see any, yeah right, we were charged for something not given to us. Plaster? I told the nurse about the alcohol, so she took from the Emergency Section. Then my mom was saying she was also not given a plaster amounting to Php72.00 because when the nurse came to put dextrose on my dad, she was looking for a plaster but she could not find. I told my mom, just let it be, my concern was to bring-out my dad from that terrible hospital.
Specialization...Why?
After paying the hospital bills, I dropped by the nurse station and asked the nurse what's the specialization of my dad's primary doctor, she said that he's a PULMONOLOGIST. I was shocked and said "What? Bakit sa pulmonologist ni-refer dad ko eh nagsusuka siya, hindi naman TB ang sakit nya, wala namang dugo ang suka nya?" Well, as usual, she could not answer me.

Have
we not transferred my dad to a UP-PGH, until now, they would have still been
searching for his disease (I wonder if they know Guillain-Barre Syndrome), maybe he would have been dead by now...Thank God
he's alive!
Hi. Can you share with me the name of the said doctor?
ReplyDeleteThe niece of my boyfriend is currently confined there for 4 days. and the total bill is close to 80,000!
Sad to know about your dad situation in that hospital, the same thing happen to my grand father at Our lady of Pillar hospital, my grandpa almost died & amputated just only for a little infection on his legs that prescribed the wrong medicine, I knew it was wrong because I am a medical professional & I knew the bacteria they found out in the culture & sensitivity test they requested. After 5 days the infection getting worse and pus progressively forming from only swollen legs. I asked the doctor to change the medicinr since the meds they used the bacteria present on the legs was resistant to the antibiotic they injected. Until 8 days I was so really disappointed that the infection still progressing, so I talked and questioning the bacteria present and the antibiotic they injected. The doctor was aware that I knew everything what they were doing so on that that day she changed the antibiotic & the day after the pus gradually gone & on the 10th day the legs of my grandpa were completely healed & discharged by the 11th, but was not able to discharge that day because they charged us for the hospital bill of 230,000 in just only for 10 days confinement. Very shocking experience of that hospital so what I did I filed a loan for a 5-10% interest just to get my grandpa to that hospital because charge us more if we wont pay right away & they wont let my grandpa out from the hospital. What a shocking experience of this kind of hospital, I will wait for their karma to come, instead of helping sick people to get well, they just used patient's for business and keep them longer in the hospital, gave wrong medicine just for money. I just wish they can sleep during the night, I also found out they charges more on alcohol, plaster, syringes, cottons, creams & others that were overpriced & we are not allowed to buy them outside except from their own pharmacy inside the hospital. I also heared from their previous patient's there & from the people outside to get rid of that hospital because mostly that were confined there were died & still they charges a lot, so please beware to bring your relative to that killer hospital.
ReplyDeleteKung ganyan ang hospital na yan walang kwenta yan, pera lang ang habol nila .. Kawawa naman tayong mga Pinoy. Dapat ipasara na yan dahil maraming taong mamamatay.
ReplyDeleteI also gave birth on that hospital and had the same experience, likewise my daughter who was suspected to have dengue but soon after being admitted found out it was only a uti, they charge too much, have no choice to where I can go since hospital in the same area even charge higher, they should have been more helpful, instead they even make us all worried the more during discharge, no empathy.,,
